WHAT: Michigan’s three major research universities that make up the University Research Corridor (URC) – in partnership with Lake Superior State University – will host a roundtable discussion with community leaders, tribal leaders and economic development officials to discuss ways to work together on issues related to maritime trade and vital shipping infrastructure such the Soo Locks, the world’s busiest locks. The research conducted at URC universities – Michigan State University, the University of Michigan and Wayne State University – focuses on maximizing shipping efficiency while minimizing the environmental impacts of commercial shipping on the Great Lakes. The media is invited to attend the roundtable discussion and to interview participants after the event.
