The following statement is attributable to Adam Burley, President, Kennecott Eagle Minerals Company, in response to today’s announcement from MDOT about the distribution of transportation economic development funds.
May 17, 2012 – MDOT announced today the awarding of state transportation economic development grants to four Michigan counties, including Marquette County.
The Marquette County Road Commission (MCRC) was able to apply for and receive these funds with help from the 236 jobs being created by Rio Tinto’s investment in Eagle.
At the time the application was filed Rio Tinto agreed with the MCRC to match the grant funds dollar-for-dollar to create a broader community impact.
The match will provide additional monies that will be applied to local infrastructure projects that benefit Marquette County.
We are delighted that by working together, Rio Tinto, the Marquette County Road Commission and MDOT will inject over $5 million to improve the safety and quality of our community’s roads.
