Snyder Appointments to Board of Veterinary Medicine

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointments of Lynn Happel, of Caledonia, and Marianne Tear, of Chesterfield, to the Michigan Board of Veterinary Medicine.

Housed within the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, the nine-member board evaluates and determines minimal entry level competency of veterinarians, and takes disciplinary action against any misconduct of licensees.

“Lynn and Marianne bring years of valuable experiences and I am confident they will efficiently and effectively oversee Michigan’s nearly 3,900 veterinarians and more than 2,600 veterinary technicians,” said Snyder.

Happel is owner of Grand Rapids-based Eastown Veterinary Clinic. Previously, she worked as an associate for Cascade Hospital for Animals and Lakeshore Animal Hospital. Happel is a member of the American Veterinary Dental Society, American Veterinary Medical Association, American Animal Hospital Association, and the Michigan Veterinary Medical Association. She holds a bachelor’s degree in veterinary science and a doctorate degree in veterinary medicine, both from Michigan State University. Happel will represent veterinarians and replaces Nancy Reeves.

Tear is the veterinary technology program director for Baker College of Clinton Township, a position she has held since 2008. Previously, she served eight years as the coordinator for the Wayne State University/Wayne County Veterinary Technology program. Tear also is the editor-in-chief for the Veterinary Technology Journal. She received an associate degree in veterinary technology from Wayne County Community College District, and earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in biology, both from Wayne State University. Tear will represent veterinary technicians and replaces Sandra Pelton.

Appointees will serve four-year terms that commence Jan. 1, 2013 and expire Dec. 31, 2016. Their appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
