Appointments, Reappointment Made to Electrical Administrative Board

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder announced last Friday the appointments of Alan Kuipers, of Portage, and Robert Kupris, of Howell, and the reappointment of David Williams, of Lansing, to the Electrical Administrative Board.

Housed within the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, the nine-member board makes recommendations for electrical code rules and grants annual licenses and certificates to qualified applicants.

“I am confident these appointees will effectively serve the people of Michigan in these roles,” said Snyder.

Kuipers is a senior engineer for Consumers Energy. With the company, he also held the positions of design team and construction field leader and circuit engineer. He previously worked as an apprentice electrician for Midland-based Hovey Electric. Kuipers holds an associate degree in electrical technology from Kalamazoo Valley Community College and a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Western Michigan University. He will represent electrical energy supply agencies operating in Michigan and replaces Thelma Dobson.

Kupris is assistant vice president of field operations for The Hanover Insurance Group, a position he has held since 2005. Previously, he served as director of general liability for CNA Insurance and as director of inland marine and agribusiness for St. Paul Travelers. Kupris earned a bachelor’s degree in urban planning from Southern Illinois University and a risk management designation from the Insurance Institute of America. He will represent insurance inspection bureaus operating in Michigan and replaces David Bushouse.

Williams is adjunct faculty at Lansing Community College and Delta Charter Township’s electrical inspector, a position he has held since 1994. Previously, Williams served as an electrician and electrical inspector for the state of Michigan, and as an electrician for Sparrow Hospital. He has held several leadership positions with the International Association of Electrical Inspectors, including secretary and president of the association’s Michigan chapter. Williams attended Lansing Community College and Michigan State University. He will continue to represent chief electrical inspectors of a municipality.

Appointees will serve four-year terms that expire Aug. 10, 2016, and their appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
