Snyder makes appointments to Talent Investment Board

Friday, November 9, 2012 LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder Friday announced the appointments of Patrick Devlin, of Livonia, and Richard Wells, of Midland, to the Talent Investment Board.

Housed within the Workforce Development Agency of the Michigan Economic Development Corp., the Talent Investment Board was created in 2011 and consists of 47 members who assist and advise the governor regarding compliance with the federal Workforce Investment Act and overall talent development.

“Patrick and Richard bring great, diverse experiences to this board and I am thankful for their willingness to serve,” said Snyder.

Devlin is chief elected officer of the Michigan Building Trades Council, a position he’s held since 2005. Previously, he served as secretary-treasurer of the Greater Detroit Building Trades Council and as business manager for Sprinkler Fitters Local 704. Devlin is past president of the Michigan Pipe Trades Association and former chairman of the U.S.A. Sprinkler Fitters Association. He will represent organized labor and fills a vacancy created by the resignation of John Hamilton.

Wells is vice president and site director for Dow Chemical Co.’s Michigan operations. He brings 30 years of experience with Dow, having previously served in various positions, including vice president of global government affairs and public policy and vice president of energy, climate change and alternative feedstocks. Wells holds a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology and completed an executive leadership program at Babson College in Massachusetts. He will represent business and fills a vacancy created by the resignation of Timothy Leuliette.

Appointees will serve terms at the pleasure of the governor, and their appointments are not subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
