Appointments Made to Health Information Technology Commission

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder has appointed Michael Gardner, of Midland, and Robert Milewski, of Washington Township, to the Michigan Health Information Technology Commission.

Housed within the Michigan Department of Community Health, the 13-member commission facilitates and promotes the design, implementation, operation and maintenance of Michigan’s health care information infrastructure.

“Michael and Robert bring extensive backgrounds and experiences to this board and I am confident they will effectively serve the people of Michigan in these roles,” said Snyder.

Gardner is chief executive officer of The Apothecary Shoppe in Midland, where he oversees pharmacy operations, human resources and customer relations. Previously, he served as director of operations and business acquisitions for UVANTA Pharmacy, operations manager for Omnicare and executive director for NCS HealthCare of Minnesota. Gardner will represent the pharmaceutical industry and fills a vacancy created by the resignation of Kimberly Ross Jessup.

Milewski serves as senior vice president of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and as special assistant to the president of hospital relations. Previously, he served as the organization’s senior vice president of operations and hospital relations; as president, chief executive officer, executive vice president and chief operating officer for Mount Clemens General Hospital and as associate hospital director for William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. Milewski earned a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy, a master’s degree in pharmacy administration and a master’s degree in business administration, all from Wayne State University. He will represent nonprofit health care corporations operating pursuant to the nonprofit health care corporation reform act, 1980 PA 350, MCL 550.1101 to 550.1703, and fills a vacancy created by the resignation of Joseph Hohner.

Gardner will serve the remainder of a four-year term that expires Aug. 3, 2012, and Milewski will serve the remainder of a four-year term that expires Aug. 3, 2014. Their appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
