– Aims to Make Michigan the Best State in the Nation for Pre-K – 12 Education –

Marquette, Mich.04/09/2018– Lieutenant Governor Brian Calley today released his detailed plan to make Michigan the best state for a child’s education in the nation.

“Over the last 8 years, we’ve made critical investments in key initiatives like FIRST Robotics, dual enrollment, expanded preschool and increased reading support. This year, Gov. Snyder’s Marshall Plan for Talent is targeting additional ways to prepare Michigan students for a career,” said Lt. Gov. Brian Calley. “Educating and preparing our children for life and a career is essential to continuing Michigan’s comeback and taking it to the next level. Our plan builds on the foundation that is being set now so our children can have the best educational opportunities in the entire country.”

Lt. Gov. Calley’s education plan transforms Michigan’s educational model to give every student the individualized approach they deserve. It empowers teachers, cuts through the bureaucracy and puts the focus on students’ individual needs. Pillars of Lt. Gov. Calley’s plan include:

  • Making sure every child enters school ready to learn by emphasizing the importance of early childhood and pre-K education.
  • Further strengthening Michigan’s focus on special education. Every child in Michigan deserves access to educational opportunities that will allow them to maximize their potential.
  • Going all in for reading. Literacy is the foundation of all learning, and Lt. Gov. Calley’s vision for a comprehensive approach to reading will improve educational outcomes across the board.
  • Making sure our students leave school ready for the real world. Lt. Gov. Calley’s plan makes sure students are ready for life and for careers – not just filling in the bubbles on standardized tests.
  • Ensuring school safety. Paramount to fostering a positive learning environment is making sure our students are safe in school. The Calley plan establishes a robust and consistent security partnership with schools to keep our kids safe.
