DIFS Takes Action Against Vladimir Ivanovich Tatarly of Lake Orion, Michigan
LANSING – The Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS) has summarily suspended the insurance producer license of Vladimir Ivanovich Tatarly of Lake Orion for violating numerous provisions of the Michigan Insurance Code. After receiving a complaint from an insurance company, DIFS discovered that Tatarly was depositing money paid toward insurance premiums into his personal accounts, leaving customers without coverage.
Tartarly’s employer, J. Jacobs and Associates, Inc., also uncovered the fraud and filed a complaint with the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.
DIFS found that Tatarly stole over $55,000 in customer funds resulting in the cancellation of several insurance policies for non-payment. The Oakland County Prosecutor issued a warrant for Tatarly’s arrest charging him with four felonies including one count of embezzlement over $50,000, one count of false pretenses, and two counts of issuing fraudulent insurance certificates resulting in his arrest on May 21, 2015.
“It is reprehensible for a producer to use funds entrusted to them by the public for personal use,” said DIFS Director Pat McPharlin. “I would urge customers of Tatarly to contact J. Jacobs and Associates, Inc. to verify their coverage. Those who believe their premiums were not forwarded to their insurer should contact the Oakland County Sheriff’s office.”
Consumers who wish to file a complaint can contact DIFS toll-free at 877-999-6442.
