LANSING, Mich.—Sen. Tom Casperson invited State Reps. Ed McBroom, R-Wacedah, John Kivela, D-Marquette, and Scott Dianda, D-Calumet, to participate in a Senate Transportation Committee hearing on Tuesday in Lansing.

Erbisch and Kangas were joined by a number of officials from around the Upper Peninsula to inform the committee about the crisis caused by the unprecedented frigid conditions that are severely impacting infrastructure in their communities.

In addition to local officials appearing in Lansing to testify, the committee also heard from officials in Ironwood, Houghton, Escanaba, Marquette and Sault Ste. Marie by video as they provided a firsthand account of the damage taking place in those areas.

Casperson thanked the local officials for taking the time away from their exceptional efforts in contending with this crisis to testify.

“The hearing was very helpful to paint a realistic picture for the Committee of what is taking place throughout the Upper Peninsula,” said Casperson, R-Escanaba. “They surely opened eyes throughout the State and showed how profound the conditions are and how urgent the need is for immediate assistance.”
