The Keep Your Health Plan Act Differs From The President’s Half-Measure In Three Significant Ways

Higgins: “The intent behind today’s passage of HR 3350, the Keep Your Health Plan Act of 2013, is right. If Americans were told they could keep their health care plans, they should be able to keep their health care plans. But, alas, this is no panacea.”

(WASHINGTON, DC) – Following today’s passage – 261-157 – by the House of Representatives of HR 3350, the Keep Your Health Plan Act of 2013, Independent Women’s Voice President and CEO Heather R. Higgins released the following statement.

“The danger of ObamaCare has been demonstrated clearly in the past few weeks by the first wave of millions of Americans who are seeing their health insurance plans cancelled, who are losing the health care plans they had and liked.

“The American people were told by President Obama that if they liked their health care plan, they could keep it, period.

“We now know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that this statement was false. And the Obama administration continued to propagate this falsehood even after they knew it to be definitively untrue. Independent Women’s Voice has been documenting the true costs of this uncompassionate and unfair law at HealthReformQuestions.com, and cataloguing the faces of ObamaCare’s insurance cancellations at MyCancellation.com.

“The intent behind today’s passage of HR 3350, the Keep Your Health Plan Act of 2013, is right. If Americans were told they could keep their health care plans, they should be able to keep their health care plans. But, alas, this is no panacea.

“The Keep Your Health Plan Act differs from the President’s half-measure in three significant ways. First, it treats all Americans fairly and equally under federal law: Anyone will be able to purchase plans that do not conform to the heavy-handed one-size-fits-all ACA model. Secondly, it restores this freedom indefinitely, rather than simply delaying the misery of cancellation for another year. Lastly, and most importantly, it follows the rule of law rather than abuses executive power.

“As many have pointed out already, it will be next to impossible for insurance companies to put the toothpaste back in the tube after ObamaCare compelled them to cancel these plans. That means, even with this measure, many people will still not get their plans back.

“What’s more, President Obama has threatened to veto this legislation that would actually make it legal for insurance companies to issue such plans. So much for really meaning it.

“At the end of the day, millions of Americans are seeing their health care plans cancelled because of ObamaCare. And the only certain way to bring this chaos to an end is full and complete repeal of the so-called Affordable Care Act.”
