Jeanne Allen: Unionization of Charter Schools About “Power” And “Control” “Not About Education

WASHINGTON, DC – Addressing the attempts by the teachers’ unions to take over charter schools, Jeanne Allen, president of The Center for Education Reform, said this morning that the attempted unionization of charter schools is about “power and control” rather than improving education.

“So why the push now from the unions to try and infiltrate the charter schools?” Fox & Friends’ Gretchen Carlson asked Allen Monday morning.

Allen responded, “It’s a great question, Gretchen, why are they going after five percent of the public schools in the country when fully 80 percent are in disrepair, right? Why are they going after these schools? It’s power, it’s control.”

“They should be spending their time working on the schools that are not where they need to be. Parents are wildly satisfied in charters, teachers are wildly satisfied…the unions’ jobs [is] about one thing…” Allen said. “It’s to actually bargain for rights; it’s not about education.”
