Fiscal Cliff Social Security Offer At Odds with Military Vets

The incoming chairman of the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) joined veteran groups in the Senate yesterday to condemn reports that the Administration is considering adopting a proposal that would cut disability and Social Security benefits for veterans as part of a ‘Fiscal Cliff’ budget deal.

Until yesterday, many in the press and on Capitol Hill believed veterans’ benefits to be relatively safe from cuts during talks.  But

Vets groups have alerted their members that “Chained-CPI”, a relatively unknown proposed change in how annual cost-of-living adjustments are calculated will take dollars from their pockets.
