National Center for Public Policy Research Press Release: Feds Blocking Millions of Acres in the West to Energy Production

 Due to the “Spotted Owls of the Prairie”
The federal government is closing millions of acres in the West to energy exploration to service the needs of the Greater Sage-Grouse and Lesser Prairie Chicken.  The Greater Sage-Grouse’s habitat is found in California, Colorado, Montana, Nevada, North Dakota, Oregon, Idaho, South Dakota, Utah, Washington and Wyoming; the Lesser Prairie Chicken’s is in Texas, Colorado, Kansas, New Mexico and Oklahoma.  In just Texas alone, the latter bird’s range covers land producing 70% of the state’s oil production, fully 20% of the nation’s domestic oil supply.  Full story here.
