LANSING, Mich.—Grassroots activists with the group Americans for Prosperity-Michigan will eagerly await news about a finalized right-to-work package in a tent on the Capitol lawn Tuesday. The group issued a call to its activists over the weekend to come to the Michigan Capitol as a “show of solidarity” with lawmakers in support of workplace freedom.
“The country is watching Michigan,” said Scott Hagerstrom, state director of Americans for Prosperity-Michigan. “This time we’re making headlines for the right reason—a pro-growth policy that can and will help to turn Michigan’s economy around.”
Who: Americans for Prosperity spokespeople and activists
What: Gathering of grassroots activists who support right-to-work
When: 8:00 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Tuesday, December 11th
Where: AFP-sponsored tent on Capitol grounds
AFP-Michigan has taken the lead on rallying grassroots in support of right-to-work legislation. Last week, around 300 AFP-Michigan activists met with their lawmakers to stress the importance of passing right-to-work. And over the past week thousands of activists have called their lawmakers in support of workplace freedom. Since passage of right-to-work bills in the House and Senate, hundreds more “thanked” their lawmakers via social media channels, including Facebook and Twitter feeds.
“Governor Snyder and our legislature have put people before politics in this fight for
workplace freedom,” said Hagerstrom. “This policy is about restoring prosperity to Michigan—making it a place where our children and grandchildren can grow up and find a good-paying job. We’re proud to stand in solidarity with the legislators who turned talk into action on this issue.”
