Lansing, Mich.– The grassroots free-market group Americans for Prosperity called State House passage of Representative Lauwers bill to end Michigan’s film subsidy program a victory for taxpayers. Annie Patnaude, the chapter’s deputy state director, issued the following statement:
“It all comes down to a choice between handouts for Batman vs. Superman or road repairs, tax relief and other important programs for Michigan families and businesses. Spending millions of dollars at a time when the budget is stretched thin, is simply bad policy.
“There’s a dangerous inclination to believe that the role of government is to spend tax dollars in pursuit of luring jobs to our state. But the reality is, government best creates jobs when it embraces the free-market principles. Many of the positive reforms enacted by state lawmakers over the past four years have improved Michigan’s climate for job creation without wasting millions of taxpayer dollars.
“We urge Senate lawmakers to throw their support behind this common sense legislation,” Deputy State Director Patnaude said.
