Walt Lindala

Great Lakes Radio News Director Walt Lindala is a veteran of over 20 years of covering news and public affairs in Upper Michigan. Walt is a native Yooper who was born and raised in the Copper Country. He graduated from Chassell High School in 1986 and came to Northern Michigan University in Marquette that fall. He began his news career at Public Radio 90, WNMU-FM in Marquette in 1987 and hosted the morning news program there for nearly a decade. Walt graduated from NMU in 1990 and married his wife April that fall. The couple reside in Marquette with their two cats, Merlin and Shadow.

In 1997, Walt came to work for Great Lakes Radio and has served as Network News Director ever since. Walt is an award-winning broadcast journalist who has been recognized by the Michigan Association of Broadcasters over a dozen times for excellence in news reporting and event coverage. Walt brings the news and information to the show and serves as the patient foil to SSU’s lead host, JP. Walt also presents the morning news on the other GLR stations as well.

In his spare time, Walt performs guitarist and singer in the Flat Broke Blues Band, which is a group he founded in 1991. Walt is also active in the community with several civic positions under his belt including having served on various boards for both the City and County of Marquette, Northern Michigan University, The Lake Superior Community Partnership, Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity, WUPX Student Radio, the Marquette Area Blues Society, the Boy Scouts of America, the United Way of Marquette County and many more.
