Hokay, so if you caught Sunny Side Up this past Saturday on Sunny 101.9, you heard me go off on a rant about how the NFL is more fake than professional wrestling. This of course stems from the fact that New England ,who had the worst record in the NFL in 2001 until 9/11 (and I swear I’m not mentioning the date for cheap publicity like 99% of country singers), went on to win the Super Bowl. It was a time when America needed a “patriotic” hero, and since Captain America was…well, fake, they opted for The Patriots.
Flash forward to 2007. The Green Bay Packers are not on top of anyone’s list as a playoff contender going into the season. Everyone is saying how Brett Favre should have just retired. Farve goes on to shatter records during the season. The Green Bay juggernaut can’t be stopped (don’t even start Chicago fans). Brett goes down in Dallas. The Cheeseheads hush, but he rally’s the team back.
First round bye.
Brett beats his old coach in Mike Holmgren and Seattle.
He then takes Green Bay onto Dallas where he does the one thing he has never done: beat the Cowboys at home.
Then the team that wasn’t even a glimmer in the playoff scene’s eye, beats the undefeated Patriots. Viewship for the NFL soars, America falls in love with Green Bay all over again, and Brett Favre retires a football god.
Well I was wrong. With the upset of New York over Dallas last night, my theory was snuffed out faster than a Mark & Walt punchline (just kidding guys). I guess I’ll have to lay my “WWE Cinderella Story” to rest for now, but you have to admit it still sounds pretty good!
