Meeting UPEDA Meeting – Friday, January 22, 2016

Don’t miss this valuable opportunity to learn about potential solutions that impact important local economic development issues.
Key meeting items:
  • Temporary guest workers are a cost effective labor resource critical to many industries.  However, 20 million of these workers are undocumented, exposing them and their employers to considerable risk. It can be difficult for employers to keep up on the complicated compliance requirements. Gain important insight regarding labor retention and management services for all industries that utilize guest labor.
  • Michigan Works! Business Services Team Members will discuss their services and how they help local companies address talent needs. This team spans the entire UP and is focused on learning about and meeting the workforce needs of businesses in our region. They are especially effective finding talent for hard to fill jobs.
  • Joan DesRochers from Michigan ‘s Unemployment Insurance Agency will inform attendees about the topics at the agency that impact employers across the region. Some issues that she will address include: Does the tax computation topic impact employers with seasonal workers more than those who have all or mostly full time workers?  Are guest workers eligible for unemployment benefits? and much more.
Attend this critical meeting and bring back insight on these important issues to your organization. The meeting will be held at the Munising Moose Lodge at 122 West Superior at 9:00 am on January 22nd.
