Sorry that the blog skipped out yesterday, but it was quite a bit busy run around the old radio ranch and it was one of the things that had to wait. But we’re back today full of information and more! So without further ado (whatever that is), here is the blog for this Friday, May 29th, 2009!

Guess who’s gonna be LIVE at the Skyboxx Sports Bar this weekend, that’s right BORDERTOWN! Friday & Saturday night, dont’ miss it!

We need to find a nice home for this high quality AKC Registered Gordon Setter Pup, Greta! She’s a lovely Female pup (born 9-26-08) at Top Gun Kennels in Ishpeming. She has all appropriate shots including rabies, heart wormer, etc. Top Gun Kennels would sell this pup for 0 but because you’re listening to the radio, we have a special deal available at 0!
Greta has started her Field training with Bob Ross of Top Gun Kennels and was already introduced to birds. She’s currently doing more training with Walt Noa at Black Duck Hunting Preserve and introduction to gunfire. Gordon Setters are great hunting dogs but they also make wonderful family dogs and Greta was hang picked for this, she’ll be a great pet!
Please call Great Lakes Radio if you are interested at (906)-228-6800. Bob Ross would also be happy to answer any questions or show you her parents who are currently at Top Gun Kennels in Ishpeming. Call Bob Ross at (906)-361-6924 **Please Note, we want to find Greta the RIGHT home with a compatible owner, both Top Gun Kennels and Great Lakes Radio reserve the right to refuse sale**

SO HERE IT IS…GOOD OL’ HUMP DAY!
Oh Yes! Hump Day! The sly vernacular name for a typical Wednesday. Since the name usually carries a connotation of a tounge-in-cheek reference to something other than a Wednesday, I thought I’d class the joint up a little bit. Yeah, I know that’s a bit of a reach for some of you to grasp, but I thought I’d give it a try. The general idea is that if it’s Hump Day, why not show something with humps! SO…here you go! It’s a camel. But not just any old camel. Oh no! it’s a camel as portrayed by the artistic icon, Pablo Picasso! How ’bout that! A cultural Hump Day! Who’da thunk it?
SURVEY SAYS: MARQUETTE & ALGER COUNTY YOUTH ARE DOING BETTER!!
Thanks to Ann Gonyea with the Great Lakes Center for Youth Development for stopping in to let us know about the latest statistics that have been gathered as part of the Survey of Youth Development Assets in Marquette and Alger County. They show a continued upward trend in youth attitudes about 40 key developmental assets in the two counties. To listen to Ann’s interview, click “HERE“. For more about the survey and the GLCYD, click “HERE“.
HAPPY HUMP DAY!
See you all tomorrow, then!

HEY MARQUETTE COUNTY!!! IT’S TIME TO GET BACK TO WORK!!
A post-Memorial Day Tuesday morning in Marquette County and we’re off like a herd of turtles. Oh well, I’m sure that Mark and I weren’t the only ones running a little slow following a three-day weekend of outdoor activity and other hullabaloo. At least the coffee was hot and fresh this morning and the humor was a sharp and witty as ever! OK, that’s not true…the coffee was stale and so were the jokes. I guess that’s why it felt like a MONDAY and not a TUESDAY. The obvious plus side of this whole deal is that since we’re getting started on a Tuesday, it will be a short work week! YAHOO!
MICHIGAN IRON INDUSTRY MUSEUM UPDATE.
A very special thank you goes out to Barry James with the Michigan Iron Industry Museum in Negaunee Township for coming by the Sunny Studios this morning to let us know about the multitude of things that are going on at the facility. Including improved access road construction and the addition of a 20-space parking lot to regularly scheduled showcase events and daytime lectures, which are all open to the public. To listen in to Barry’s complete interview, click “HERE“, and for more about the Michigan Iron Industry Museum, click “HERE“.
HEY MARQUETTE COUNTY…THE GOVERNOR’S NOT LEAVING!
National news this morning with the nomination of Sonya Sotomayor to the United States Supreme Court. President Barack Obama made the announcement of the selection today. As you recall, the current Governor of Michigan, Jennifer Granholm, was on the so-called short list of six candidates being considered for the vacancy being created by the stepping down of the ailing Justice David Souter.
Political pundits (including myself) around the state were hemming and hawing about what would happen if the Governor were to get the nod and leave office before her term expires. I felt all along that she was not going to get the selection because of two items. One, she is Canadian-born. That would create political heat in the nomination process that would not be a factor with the other candidates. Number two, Governor Granholm has a strong track record in law, but none as a judge. This issue, in my opinion, would have been a larger problem, considering that many others on the short list had extremely strong judicial histories.
So there you have it…Granholm until 2010. What do you think?
OUT THE DOOR WE GO!
Back to work, Marquette County! We’ll see you on the radio tomorrrow morning!
