Jump (For My Love)” was the opening track (and third single) of the Pointer Sisters1983 album, Break Out.

Released prior to the 1984 Summer Olympics games, the song’s video featured footage of athletes competing in track and field events. The song was the second of four Billboard Hot 100 top 10 singles in a row for the sisters in 1984; it peaked at #3 in July. It also appeared on Billboard’s Adult Contemporary chart and reached the Top 10 in the UK, peaking at number six.

The original title given to the song simply was “Jump.” The title was modified to “Jump (for My Love)” prior to its release to avoid confusion with the Van Halen song Jump, which was released earlier the same year.

The song netted the group a Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal in 1985.

In 2003, this recording was used in the movie Love Actually.

THE CALM BEFORE THE STORM, I GUESS…

THE NEWS WAITS FOR NO MAN!

THE NEWS WAITS FOR NO MAN!

Today was kind of a quiet day on the show and I imagine that was a good thing.  Tomorrow is April Fool’s Day and who knows what may end up happening on the big program.  I guess you’ll just have to tune in to see what happens.   Maybe something good…maybe something bad.  Only time will tell.  Of course, maybe we’ll just be too tired to really do anything anyway.  Ya gotta love morning radio!  A strange mix of information, entertainment and unnecessarily large amounts of coffee!

DETROIT RADIO WILL NEVER BE THE SAME!

FORMER DETROIT RADIO LEGEND BIG DADDY ARTHUR P.

FORMER DETROIT RADIO LEGEND BIG DADDY ARTHUR P.

From FREEP.COM:

So long, baaaby!

Arthur Penhallow, the deep-voiced DJ who has been a fixture at WRIF-FM (101.1) for 39 years, has parted ways with the station.  But the legendarily rowdy personality who helmed the afternoon drive at Detroit’s signature rock station said Monday he’s not ready for retirement just yet.  According to a WRIF press release Monday afternoon, the station said it was moving on without Penhallow, variously known as Arthur P, the Grand Poobah and Big Daddy. Along with being the station’s most senior employee, Penhallow was a signature voice (and sometimes face) for WRIF’s commercials and marketing promotions — particularly the booming catchphrase baaaby!

Penhallow referred to his time at the station as “39 charmed years.”  “I’m sad to be leaving, for sure,” he added. “But I’m leaving with all my honor, dignity and integrity.”

APRIL FOOL’S DAY TOMORROW, WATCH OUT!

Hold on, gang, we’ll see you all tomorrow!  Be sure to wear your raingear!

SLIPPERY SLOPE WATCH 2009 BEGINS TODAY.

TAKING OUT THE GM TRASH!

TAKING OUT THE GM TRASH!

OK Gang, here’s the deal.  We all knew that there were going to be some changes in how things were going to be with the new Obama administration, but now that they are starting to take effect, isn’t it interesting to see how some folks are reacting?  CASE IN POINT:  the new General Motors and Chrysler Bridge Loan plans announced in Detroit today.  It seems weird to me that the government can dictate that that the head of a company step down as a condition of getting financial backing.  In this instance I am referring to the Rick Wagoner situation with GM.  It seems odd that this is OK with a lot of people, but no one called for the leaders of the recently bailed out Wall Street and Banking firms to have to do the same.  It’s awful quiet out there right now about all of this.  I will, however, give guarded credit to Governor Jennifer Granholm for making a public comment about this situation on national TV by saying the federal government is making Wagoner out be the “sacrificial lamb” in this deal.  But I’ll say it again…it’s awful quiet out there, almost too quiet.  Just something to think about.

MAIN STREET MONDAY ROCKS!

SURREPTITIOUS MARK EVANS WITH THE MSM ENTRIES.

SURREPTITIOUS MARK EVANS WITH THE MSM ENTRIES.

Enough of the political clap trap for now, though.  We had a great response to our latest Classic Cartoon Trivia question on Main Street Monday.  Congratulations to Maria R. of Marquette.  She picked up two 14″ 3-topping pizzas from Main Street Pizza in Marquette, Harvey or Munising this morning by knowing that we were looking for the song stylings of the one and only PORKY PIG!

CALL IT A DAY!

Well, that’s another day in the can.  Who knows what tomorrow will bring?  I don’t, but I’m sure we’ll talk about then.  Have a good one!
