Seney – The Seney National Wildlife Refuge will offer the discovery program “A Hoot in the Woods” on Saturday, July 31 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. beginning at the Visitor Center.

Learn about local owl species. Discover their history at Seney and the wonders of their adaptations to be silent night predators.

Discovery stations at the Center are located near the Visitor Center or along Marshland Wildlife Drive. For more information, call the NWR at 586-9851 ext. 15.

Marquette – Swick Plumbing and Heating will sponsor the annual “Walk Against Alzheimer’s” on Saturday, July 31 beginning at 9 a.m. in Swick’s parking lot on Presque Isle Avenue in Marquette.

The walk will go to Presque Isle and back. People and their canine companions are encouraged to form teams to raise money for Alzheimer’s research. Swick will provide complimentary refreshments and dog treats. Registrants will automatically be entered in a drawing to win some fabulous prizes, including gift cards for Holiday Gas.

Marquette – Wisconsin entrepreneur Tera Johnson, owner of Tera’s Artisan Whey, will present a public lecture on Saturday, July 31 from 3 to 4:30 p.m. in the Shiras Room of the Peter White Public Library in Marquette.

Learn how she turned a sheep, goat, and cow’s milk dairy byproduct into a superfood, her business model, and the design features of her facility that has minimal environmental impact.

The event is sponsored by the Upper Peninsula Section of the American Chemical Society and Slow Food Central Upper Peninsula.

Gwinn – The second annual “Ride for Shelter ATV Poker Run” will be held on Saturday, July 31 at Fatboyz South in Gwinn.

Registration will begin at 10 a.m. There is a $20 entry fee, with proceeding going to benefit The Women’s Center and the Harbor House domestic violence shelter. The event will include a 50/50 drawing, giveaways, cash prizes and food, with a $500 grand prize for the best poker hand.
